Jeremiah 9:23-24
A Spotlight on the Scriptures
This is a spotlight on the Scripture; Jeremiah 9:23-24 Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things, I delight, declares the LORD.”
These are two important Bible verses often quoted on their own. But we should remember they were spoken to people who had rejected God's Word.
As a nation, what do we take pride in? We often rely on human wisdom, wealth, and power. However, our real strength isn't found in the politicians in Washington, Wall Street, the stock market, or our nuclear weapons. We tend to brag about these things. But God says if you want something to shout about brag, that he understands and knows me, that Our strength lies in our spiritual values, moral values, character, and purpose. Sadly, these aren't taught in schools or colleges today. We've raised a generation that's lost its moral direction.
It's not popular to say this, and it may not make me many friends, but Jeremiah faced the same challenge. Like him, I believe there's still hope for a spiritual revival in our country.
We need leaders who know and follow God and His Word. Our nation desperately needs to return to God, setting aside our hypocrisy and false sense of power. To know God (not merely to know about God) in intimate fellowship is the most meaningful pursuit of life. This is a spotlight on the Scripture
