Central Passage
Romans 12:19-20
Description

This a spotlight on the Scripture: Romans 12:19-20 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

Rom 12:20  To the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”

One of the greatest principles in the Bible is also the hardest to follow: turning the other cheek when someone hurts you. Like the story of the Irishman who turned the other cheek but fought back when he was hit again, many of us struggle not to retaliate. When we take matters into our own hands, we stop trusting God to handle them. God wants us to walk by faith and let Him deal with those who wrong us. We should turn our problems over to God, even though it’s hard to do.

There was a man in one of the churches I served who wronged me deeply. I wanted to strike back, but instead, I prayed and let God handle it. When I saw him later, he was unhappy and troubled, and I felt sorry for him. While I sometimes fail to turn things over to God, but when I do, I am amazed at how well He handles them. He does a much better job than I do. I wish I could say that I turn all of these matters over to the Lord, but I confess that sometimes I hit back. May we remember, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord
